  • Mason Proffit's second album has an honest-to-God drum break in the beginning of "Old Joe Clark," and several good songs: the aforementioned "Old Joe Clark," "Hard Luck Woman," "Let Me Know Where You're Going," "Everybody Was Wrong" and maybe "Michael Dodge" are all worth many listens. Most of the others aren't bad either, but "He Loves Them" and a couple others are absolute stinkers, too genteel to be either rock or country. I recommend their first album, "Wanted," above "Movin' Towards Happiness," though it too has a couple of tremulous and manipulative song-poems. Who knows, maybe they'll let me put together a "Best of Mason Proffit" CD one day.
